Term Definition
Above The Fold

Content which is displayed at the top of an email or web page and does not require visitors to scroll through the finroamtion is know as Above the fold.

Ad Rotation

Refers to the process by which advertising found at the top of a web page changes everytime it is refreshed or viewed from a different computer.

Ad Tracking

Allows for the statistical analysis of advertising, giving information on views, hits and/or clicks. It is helpful when determining what sources revenue is generated from and how adverts can be optimised to attract traffic with higher relativity, and thus increase customer conversion.

Adsense

is search engine giant Google's online advertising program whereby bloggers and web publishers can create revenue by including pay-per-click advertising on their online platforms.

Adwords

Google's pay-per-click advertiser program, where entities can design and publish their own online adverts.

Affiliate Program

An agreement where individuals or organisations agree to display advertising for a sponsor's site, products or services in exchange or a percentage based payment or comission fee.

Aggregation

A method of gathering information from various online sources, usually via a RSS. information gathered can then be re-organised as the user sees fit. e.g.: news items relating to a predefined keyword.

Aggregator

A tool or desktop application that gathers syndicated content from online sources

AJAX (Asynchronous Java Script and XML)

A type of script used in the creation of real-time web applications, usually referred to by its acronym 'AJAX'.

Analytics

A measurement of online activity, usually relating to marketing and sales success rates. These can take the form of both qualitative and quantitative statistics and key-performance indicators.

Anchor Text

An online term referring to the main body of text found within a link.

Aquisition Cost

The expense to an organisation of acquiring a new supplier or customer.

ASP (Active Server Pages)

A technology created by Microsoft that allows users to integrate scripts into web page design. It is frequently used to gather information using a form format.

Attrition Rate

The amount of clients lost during a measurable period of time, seen as a percentage of the total amount of clients of the same time period.

Auto-Responder

A pre written email message that automatically sends following a defined trigger. Examples of a trigger event include online purchases, inquiries, client support and completion of online forms.
